During her graduate studies, Matty completed two internships – one with NH State Representative Jim Splaine, where she focused on gathering data to support the same-sex marriage law in NH, and the other with SAGE of the Rockies in Denver, CO, where she assisted with programming for older LGBT adults. Matty is an education ambassador for the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and a member of TransGender NH, an advocacy group for trans people and their allies. She has served on the aging working group for the Philadelphia Trans Health Conference (PTHC) for the past four years and has presented on trans aging issues at the annual meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society and the PTHC. She has also presented to groups across NH on providing welcoming, culturally competent services to LGBT individuals.
