The Linguistic Landscapes of Spanish in New England and New Hampshire

 

Program Description:

This is a multimedia presentation detailing the changing demographics of the Spanish-speaking population of New England and New Hampshire from a sociolinguistic perspective. Census data, previous research and the presenter's current investigation will be used to compare trends of Spanish language maintenance and shift to English in New Hampshire with that of other New England states and other regions of the United States.

Holly Cashman

Holly Cashman is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures at the University of New Hampshire. Her research specialization is sociolinguistcs, the study of the social aspects of language variation and change. Research interests include bilingual conversation, code-switching, language maintenance and shift and politeness/impoliteness.
