Criteria for Academic Honors

University Scholars

To be recognized as a University Scholar, students must be currently enrolled and matriculated and

Bachelor candidates must have a 3.2 - 3.69 cumulative UNH GPA and must have at least 100 or more credits by February 14, 2014, of which at least 64 are UNH graded credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled during the spring semester) or

Associate degree candidates must have a 3.2 - 4.0 cumulative UNH GPA and must have earned 32 or more credits by February 14, 2014, including at least 12 UNH graded credits. (These 12 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled during the spring semester.)

Presidential Scholars

To be recognized as a Presidential Scholar, students must be currently enrolled and matriculated and

Have a 3.7 - 4.0 cumulative UNH GPA and

Have at least 100 or more credits by February 14, 2014, of which at least 64 are UNH graded credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled during the spring semester).

University Honors Program Scholars

To be recognized as a University Honors Program Scholar, students must be currently enrolled and matriculated and

Have a 3.2 - 3.69 cumulative UNH GPA and

Have at least 100 or more credits by February 14, 2014, of which at least 64 are UNH graded credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled during the spring semester) and

Have 32 credits of Honors work, including a 4-8 credit independent research project (senior thesis). Typically these credits include work done both in general education and in the student's field of specialization.

University Honors Program Presidential Scholars

To be recognized as a University Honors Program Presidential Scholar, students must be currently enrolled and matriculated and

Have a 3.7 - 4.0 cumulative UNH GPA and

Have at least 100 or more credits by February 14, 2014, of which at least 64 are UNH graded credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled during the spring semester) and

Have completed 32 credits of Honors work, including a 4-8 credit independent research project (senior thesis). Typically these credits include work done both in general education and in the student's field of specialization.

Please Note

  • The Honors Convocation Ceremony is for students graduating in May, September or December 2014.
  • Enrollment in the Honors Program is not required for participation in the Honors Convocation.
  • Invitations to participate in the Honors Convocation are based on a student’s credit hours and GPA. Non-graduating students who have the required credits and GPA for academic honors but have not met their degree requirements for graduation will receive invitations.
  • If a non-graduating student maintains their GPA, they will be invited to the Honors Convocation again the following year.
  • Invitations to students who meet the requirements to participate in the Honors Convocation will be mailed in March of 2014.
  • If you are a graduating senior and plan to attend the ceremony, please register. Registration will open in March.
  • No action needs to be taken if a student will not be attending the ceremony.

Students or parents with questions regarding criteria or qualifications for honors should contact the Registrar's Office at 603-862-1500. However, specific information about grades or averages must be discussed in person, with the student only, and cannot be given over the phone.
