Programs - Safe Rides

What is Safe Rides?

Safe Rides is a program for UNH students who drove their car to a social gathering/event and need a sober ride home.

What is Safe Rides NOT?

Safe Rides is not a taxi service, a warm car when it's cold, an umbrella when it's raining, relief for tired but otherwise healthy bodies, an escort service, a ride from one party to another party, or a justification for irresponsible drinking. Safe Rides should be treated as a backup plan to deliver people home safely, and should not be monopolized for other uses.

When does it operate?

It operates Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. during periods of full service (when school is in session, semester I and II).

Where does it go?

Safe Rides will service the campus, Durham, Dover, Lee, Madbury, Newmarket, and Portsmouth.

How are rides scheduled?

Rides are on a first-come first-served basis with priority given to people who are not within walking distance of their residence. Call 603-365-6406.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for this ride. It is supported by the student transportation fee.

Safe Rides Notes:

Operates Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 11 pm to 3 am when school is in session.
