About the staff

Mary Mayhew, Program Director

Mary is a New Hampshire native and proud UNH graduate.

Her professional career has always focused on issues relating to domestic and sexual and social justice. After graduating from UNH with a BA in History, She began her career as a staff member at Napa Emergency Women’s Services in Napa, California, working as an advocate in the program’s emergency shelter.

From 1995- 2004, she worked at Starting Point: Services for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence, a rural crisis center serving the 18 towns of Carroll County, NH, originally at the Direct Services Coordinator, then for 8 years as the program’s Executive Director. 

Since September of 2004, Mary has served as the Program Director at SHARPP. Her role at SHARPP is to oversee the general operations of SHARPP including program planning, financial and grant oversight, staff supervision and state and local policy work. She is particularly proud of the SHARPP staff and the work that they do at UNH, noting the fact that SHARPP is seen as a model program for other colleges and universities across the country. 

Mary is currently Co-chair of the New Hampshire College Consortium to End Violence Against Women on Campus, serves on the Research Committee of the NH Governor’s Commission Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and is founding member of Prevention Innovations, a UNH based consulting, training, and research unit that develops, implements and evaluates cutting-edge programs, policies and practices to end violence against women on campus. Additionally, she is working towards an M. Ed. in Counseling.

  • Acknowledged Addictions: French Roast Coffee and Mad Men. Both keep me awake too late!
