Applications to the UNH IRB must include for every listed UNH faculty, staff, or student documentation of completion of ONE of the following:
- The UNH web-based training on human subjects protections. This training was retired on August 30, 2024 but is valid for three years from the date of completion.
- A USNH CITI Program human subjects research course. Individuals taking this course need to use University System of New Hampshire as their organization when logging into the CITI Program, not University of New Hampshire (the latter is not listed). See this guidance for accessing the CITI Program courses via USNH Single Sign On. While most UNH researchers should complete the Human Subjects Research for Social-Behavioral-Educational Researchers course, some may want to complete the Human Subjects Research for Biomedical Researchers course, depending on the nature of their research. The UNH IRB will not accept the CITI Program Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course in lieu of either of these two courses though researchers are welcome to complete it as a supplement to them. These courses may be completed according to an individual’s own timeframe but allow a couple of hours. The courses are valid for three years.
Researchers should submit documentation of completion of IRB training from their home institution for each non-UNH individual listed on an application. The UNH IRB will not hold up review of applications missing this documentation but will not grant approval until all applicable documentation is submitted.
If the study's research team has community research partners who may benefit from a synchronous learning activity, inclusive of videos and learning activities, the UNH IRB accepts the Research Ethics for All training for those individuals. Research Ethics for All is designed for community research partners with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, but may also support other learners for whom the UNH IRB training may not be accessible. The UNH IRB expects Research Ethics for All to be delivered by a member of the research team who has completed the UNH IRB-approved training (see above).
Please email research.integrity@unh.edu with questions about the training requirement or the documentation of completion of training.
