If you innovate in a forest and nobody hears you, did it happen?
Universities are being consistently reminded by the federal and state governments that commercialization and use of the ideas generated on campus will be a key metric for 21st century academia. The key component of "use" is taking our concepts and working with third parties to distribute UNH ideas to the world at large. Third parties can be federal or state government, other academic institutions or not-for-profit collaborators, funding agencies, or for-profit companies, and the first step to effectively work well with others is to understand how UNH structures these relationships.
This seminar will cover the general concept of working with third parties, the types of agreements that govern these relationships, the key concepts behind each agreement, and the approach UNH takes to ensure faculty retain the classic academic freedoms of scholarship, teaching, research, and outreach while accelerating the impact of our research and protecting our ideas.
