Researcher Explores Native Americans' Views of the State of Their Communities

Carsey researcher Jessica Ulrich-Schad has gained insights about Native Americans and Alaska Natives using data from Community and Environment in Rural America surveys and focus groups with Native leaders in one rural state.

Describing how the Native experience is both similar to, and unique from, that of other rural Americans, Ulrich-Schad concludes that, while Native people face challenges in their communities, they remain optimistic and firmly attached to their Native identities, culture, and natural environment.

Center for Molecular and Comparative Endocrinology Researchers Contribute to Major Breakthrough in Vertebrate Evolution

Stacia Sower, Wayne Decatur and Jeff Halland, colleagues in the Center for Molecular and Comparative Endocrinology, have helped determine the first complete genome sequence for the sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus).  The genome sequence helps scientists understand the evolution of vertebrates.

UNH Psychology Researchers Contribute to the Search for Better Treatments for Depression

Timothy Warner, a Ph.D. candidate, and psychology Professor Robert Drugan are studying the implications of stress on depression.  Their work will contribute to the development of new, more effective treatments for this wide-spread mental health condition.

LOI Due March 1 for USDA/NIFA's Integrated Research, Education, and Extension Competitive Grants Program - Organic Transitions

The 2013 Request for Applications for the Integrated Research, Education, and Extension Competitive Grants Program - Organic Transitions (ORG) has been released by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA/NIFA).  Letters of Intent are due March 1, 2013; full proposals are due April 5, 2013.

ORG supports research, Extension, and higher education programs that improve the competitiveness of organic livestock and crop producers, as well as those who are adopting organic practices.

Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund Deadline for 2103

The next application deadline for the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund is Monday, April 1, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

Organizations providing services to New Hampshire's North Country are encouraged to apply. The Tillotson Fund has a preference for programs that benefit Colebrook, Pittsburg, Clarksville, Stewartstown, Dixville and other towns in Coos County, NH as well as bordering communities in the United States and Canada.
