Auditions

An audition is required of all students—incoming freshmen, transfer students, or continuing students—who want to major in music at UNH. There are two parts to the audition, the theory test and the performance. Auditions are by appointment only.

Auditions Dates for High School Seniors


Friday, November 2, 2012 
(no clarinets)

Saturday, January 19, 2013 
No bassoons, clarinets or trumpets 
Horns should schedule on this day 
Percussion should schedule on this day

Saturday, February 2, 2013 
No flute, bassoon or low brass auditions
Jazz guitarists should schedule this date

Friday, February 15, 2013 
Percussion should schedule on this day

Saturday, February 16, 2013 

Sunday, February 17, 2013 

Please note: Guitarists will be scheduled ONLY after submitting a pre-audition recording.

How do you schedule an audition?

Call 603-862-2404 or e-mail music.info@unh.edu at least 2 weeks in advance of the day you plan to audition.

A written confirmation of your scheduled audition day will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks before your scheduled audition. It will include the audition time and schedule for the day.

Part 2: Written Theory Test

The written theory test is used for placement and includes intervals, triads, and major and minor scales in treble and bass clefs, and notation of simple melodies. No theory training is expected beyond that normally acquired through performing experiences.

You do not need to be a music major to participate in these ensembles. More information about ensembles.

Evening audition times are available beginning at 5:30 p.m. if you are absolutely unable to make the morning time, or if the morning times are filled.

Opera Workshop 3:40 - 5:00 p.m. Bratton Recital Hall, M135, Paul Creative Arts Center
Thursday, August 30, 2012  Opera Workshop requires a prepared classical song or aria.
Marching Band
Concert Choir
An audition is NOT required to participate. Please contact Casey Goodwin if you are interested in Marching Band and Marching Band Camp at 603-862-3259.
Chamber Singers Auditions are arranged through William Kempster, room M-125, PCAC. To participate, you must be a member of the Concert Choir.
Jazz Bands Audition information will be posted outside of M-129, PCAC.
