Summer Theatre-Arts Retreat for Students

JULY CAMPS 2013

Twinkle STARS Drama Camp: July 8-12
8:30-4:30 p.m.
Entering grades 3-5
Through drama, music, storytelling, movement and theatre games, primary students showcase their natural acting impulses. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. A showcase is performed for families and friends on July 12, at 3:00pm in the Johnson Theatre. Free tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-25. Registration is due by June 1.

Rising STARS Playwriting Workshop: July 8-12
8:30-4:30 p.m.
Entering grades 5-8
The play’s the thing! Students and director explore a central theme and create characters, scenes and situations that make up an original (often hysterical) production. Students create monologues, scenes, even movement and dance to add to the piece. A performance showcase is presented for families and friends on July 12, at 5:00pm in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-15 students. Registration is due by June 1.

Super STARS Advanced Theatre Academy: July 8-12
Entering grades 9-12
8:30-4:30 p.m.
This drama intensive focuses on all aspects of the dramatic arts.  This year students will participate in acting, Stage Makeup, and Stage Combat; students will then have a choice between Musical Theatre and Dance, Design and Rendering or Directing.  There will be a student showcase on July 12 at 7:00 pm in the Johnson Theatre which will feature selected performances or designs chosen by each student.  Enrollment: 18-30. Registration is due by June 1.

Flying STARS Aerial Intensive: July 8-12
Entering grades 5-12
9:00-11:00 a.m.
For students who wish to explore the exciting genre of aerial arts in depth, this week-long intensive focuses on the artistry, technique, vocabulary, safety and the unique structure of aerial dance. Appropriate dance/movement attire required. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED. Enrollment: 12-20. Registration due by June 1.
Cost: $175

Summer Dance STARS Intensive: July 15-26
Entering grades 3-12
8:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Dancing with the UNH STARS! Dancers in grades 3-12 are invited to participate in our popular Dance Intensive Summer Series. This unique program, offering an array of dance disciplines and styles, will be taught by skilled & passionate dance professionals, including faculty, alumni and students from the acclaimed UNH Dance program. For two weeks, students will study many different dance forms and receive 45 hours of inspiring classes, improving their technique in all genres: ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, aerial, contemporary, modern and partnering. Junior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of at least 3 consecutive years is recommended. Senior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of at least 5 consecutive years is recommended; more advance dancers and those experienced in stage performance and/or dance competition are also welcomed. Appropriate dance/movement attire required. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED. An aerial dance showcase will be presented for family and friends on Thursday, July 25, at 1:00. A Dance Showcase will be presented for families and friends on Friday, July 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the dance studios. Registration by June 1.

*An open warm up will take place on the first day as well as general placing of levels.  It is at the instructors’ discretion to move up anyone they believe can do so.

AUGUST CAMPS 2013

UNH Youth Professional STARS Company: August 5-17
Entering grades 7-12
8:30-4:30 p.m.
During this 2-week series, students audition, rehearse and perform in a large-scale musical production. The series concludes with two performances of Willy Wonka on August 16 at 6:00 p.m. & August 17 at 2:00 p.m.  Focus is placed on rehearsing and producing the show. Musical theatre rehearsals might incorporate character development, movement, choreography, scene study and singing. Students are exposed to the audition process on the first day and everyone is cast as a singer, dancer and/or actor. Students will be asked to provide costumes and to participate in the final strike after Saturday’s performance. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. Anyone ONLY interested in tech is also welcomed; make sure to specify this on the first day.  All cast members should expect to provide their own costume pieces.

Tickets for the performance may be purchased through the PCAC Ticket Office. The total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 20-50. Registration is due by July 1.

Twinkle STARS Musical Theatre Camp: August 5-16
Entering grades 1-3
9:00 a.m. to noon OR 1:30 to 4:30
In this program, younger students can participate in the exciting musical theatre program at UNH. Half day sessions allow for younger students to explore elements of musical theatre performance through dance and song.  A performance showcase is presented for families and friends on Friday, August 16;. The morning session showcase will be at 11:00 am in the Hennessy Theatre.  The afternoon session  showcase will be at 3:30pm in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-20. Registration is due by July 1.
Cost:  $200

Rising STARS Musical Theatre Camp: August 5-17
Entering grades 4, 5 & 6
8:30-4:30 p.m
Elementary students participate in the exciting musical theatre program at UNH. Full day sessions allow for younger students to work on their own numbers within the UNH Youth Professional STARS Company production Willy Wonka and also the opportunity to explore their own creativity through age-appropriate theatre games and activities. Rising STARS will perform in both performances of Willy Wonka on August 16 at 6:00 p.m. and August 17 at 2:00 p.m. Students will be asked to provide costumes and to participate in the final strike after Saturday’s performance.
Enrollment: 12-20. Registration is due by July 1.
