PrOVES Sites

Some great organizations we've partnered with in the past:

Homemakers Health Services, Rochester, NH:

Homemakers is a charitable healthcare agency that provides a medical and social day care program for older and disabled community members.  Homemakers hosts their annual Senior Olympics with the help of PrOVES.  Students have assisted staff in running the events, recording times, making awards, and spending time with the “athletes” during the activities. PrOVES has also helped out with their regular program activities, such as crafts, music, and bingo.

Dover Housing Authority – Seymour Osman Community Center, Dover, NH:

The Community Center in a nonprofit organization that offers numerous educational programs for over 150 local school children.  In the past PrOVES has helped build their library, construct a map mural on their walls, in addition to many painting projects throughout the facility.  They are always looking for assistance with organizing their gym and preparing their classrooms for the start of the school year.

Great Bay Discovery Center, Stratham, NH:

The Great Bay Discovery Center serves as an educational conservation headquarters for the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.  PrOVES has been working with the kind folks at the Discovery Center for over nine years!  In the past participants have worked to repair a wigwam on their Native American site, in addition to cleaning up the Great Bay shore front, and helping with trail and boardwalk maintenance.

Riverside Rest Home, Dover, NH:

Riverside is 24-hour care, county nursing home facility with over 200 residents.  PrOVES has been working with Riverside for many years, providing meaningful interactions with its residents.  Students have also helped clean up the home’s courtyard, in addition to assisting in social/cultural residential outings.  Each year in October, we have the pleasure of hosting Riverside for a Halloween Party on campus!

Seacoast Science Center, Rye NH:

Located in Odiorne State Park, the Center is home to miles of walking trails, most of which are handicapped accessible.  In the past, PrOVES participants have provided much needed trail maintenance, as well as clearing brush.

Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth, NH:

Strawbery Banke is a landmark museum in Portsmouth that tells the history of the seacoast area. In the past, PrOVERs helped relocate a large area of vegetation near their welcome center, in addition to assisting the grounds crew with various projects.  PrOVERS have also helped paint some of the historic buildings.

The Gundalow Company, Portsmouth, NH

By linking the region’s past with the need to protect it for the future, the non-profit Gundalow Company inspires individuals to take responsibility and become better stewards of our maritime region. Their message is to appreciate the river systems, and to understand the need for protection and action. PrOVES participants have had the exciting chance to help with the construction of a new gundalow boat being built at the Strawbery Banke site.

The Seacoast African American Cultural Center, Portsmouth, NH

The Seacoast African American Cultural Center’s mission is to celebrate the unique history of African Americans on the Seacoast. In our first year partnering with the SAACC, PrOVERs had the opportunity to assist with an archiving project, organizing and cataloging important documents and memorabilia dating from the Center’s inception.

The Great Bog, Portsmouth, NH

The Great Bog conservation area is an important wetland complex, and home to a wealth of plant and animal life. UNH PrOVES participants assisted the City of Portsmouth in maintaining the trail areas.
