Professor David Burdick Receives Gulf of Maine Council Awards
David M. Burdick, research associate professor in the department of natural resources and Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, was honored recently for his environmental work. Gov. John Lynch and Department of Environmental Services Commissioner Tom Burack presented Burdick with the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment award, which recognizes the important contributions made to the health of the Gulf of Maine.
For the past 16 years, Burdick has involved public school and college level students in cooperative efforts centered on the restoration of tidal estuarine ecosystems. The changes resulting from these cooperative efforts are visibly apparent and participants are able to view these wetlands with pride, knowing that their efforts have made a lasting, positive impact.
