William Kempster, associate professor of music, has received an Alumni Achievement Award from the University of New England, Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. This award, which acknowledges “significant service in a particular locality, field of activity or to a particular group” by UNE graduates, recognizes Kempster for making “a strong impact as a noted orchestral and choral conductor with a special interest in Australian music.”

Kempster was nominated for the award by Deidre Rickards, his former high school teacher and music methods professor at UNE, on the strength of the seven CD’s he has produced (many featuring significant recordings of contemporary Australian music) with both the UNH choirs and his Canadian group Ensemble de la Rue, as well as for the many U.S. and Canadian premiere performances of Australian choral works he has directed.
