PAT Council Gets Update on Consensual Amorous Relationship Policy
During its monthly meeting, the PAT Council received an update on the draft of the university’s consensual amorous relationship policy.
Donna Marie Sorrentino, director of Affirmative Action and Equity, explained the guidelines aim to prevent a conflict of interest between employees who are in a romantic relationship and one has power over the other. The relationship can be between faculty and staff, faculty and student or staff and student. It does not concern student and student romances.
According to Sorrentino, the draft calls for relationships that have an uneven power dynamic to be reported immediately to eliminate the situation. Employees must notify their chair, director or immediate supervisor.
Also discussed at the monthly meeting was the policy on service animals, now defined as dogs trained to perform tasks for individuals.
