UNH and Durham will celebrate WalkNH Week 2011 with a group walk Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
NH Gov. John Lynch has proclaimed June 1 to 7, 2011, WalkNH Week as a way to promote walking and help keep New Hampshire residents on a healthy path. The goal of WalkNH Week is to inspire participants to continue walking as part of a healthy lifestyle long after the June events end.
The Durham walk begins at noon. Participants should meet in the lobby of the Whittemore Center 10 to 15 minutes before the walk to allow time to check-in and/or register, and visit sponsor resource tables. The walk will leave from the Whittemore Arena and stay on the UNH campus. The walk will be held inside on the concourse of the Whittemore Arena if it rains.
There will be three choices of walking route lengths, from one to three miles, on the UNH Durham campus. To view the routes, visit http://www.unh.edu/hr/walkNH2011.htm.
UNH Manchester will host a one-mile walk June 6 at 11:30 a.m., with a rain date of June 7. Participants from the Manchester area should gather at the main entrance of the Manchester campus at 400 Commercial St., Manchester. Please contact Stacey Silva at 641-4166 for more information on the UNH Manchester Walk.
At the Durham walk, Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare representatives will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to provide information for benefits-eligible employees on the HP Wellness Connection and to offer sun damage screening.
Participants should bring their own personal recyclable/reusable water bottles. Water coolers will be provided at check-in and along the walking route. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing based on the temperature forecast for the day. Please wear hats and apply sunscreen if appropriate.
Online registration is open until May 31. Walk-in registrations are also available at check-in on June 1. To register, visit https://www.events.unh.edu/RegistrationForm.pm?event_id=8710.
