Letter to the Editor: Waysmeet Center Flourishing After Challenging Year
May 18, 2011
The United Campus Ministry (UCM) to the University of New Hampshire (aka the Waysmeet Center) extends greetings and peace to you. As you know, 2010 was a challenging year for UCM. Thanks to many friends in the community, we are back in full operation and are flourishing in our programs, outreach services, direct services, and support for students and community members. We remain passionate about the work we do and are grateful for everyone who enabled us to continue to be a presence and witness to the beloved community.
On May 5, we invited our supporters to visit the Waysmeet Center for an evening of gratitude, music, poetry, art, and celebration to thank them for their generous support over the past year. We have so much to be thankful for, and we have much to accomplish in the coming year. We could not have come through this challenge in such a positive way without the community’s help.
Larry Brickner-Wood, chaplain, spoke to the group of supporters and thanked them for the many ways in which they assisted the Waysmeet Center during the time of challenge. He introduced two members of the UCM board who spoke about how Waysmeet has been such an important part of their lives. Brickner-Wood also introduced Laura Joseph, UNH 2011, Waysmeet intern and community dinner coordinator. Laura had two siblings who are UNH grads and who were also involved at Waysmeet. Laura told an inspiring story of her experience at Waysmeet.
