Provost Clarifies Initiatives Under Consideration by the Budget Task Force

May 11, 2011

In light of rumors and a May 10, 2011, story in the Union Leader I feel it is important to set the record straight and share this information with all faculty and staff. Our financial situation is not an easy one. We need to accept that we are likely to lose $31 million in state funding for the year beginning July 1. The Budget Task Force has been working diligently to identify how to address this significant shortfall and our report will be made public before May 31.

One of several initiatives being considered by the Budget Task Force is the merging of the upper administrative levels of CEPS, COLSA and EOS. I have already assured the faculty and staff in those three units that there will be no "top-down" decisions in this regard, and that the summer period will provide an opportunity to digest and analyze the CBC/Budget Task Force findings and other reports, so that we will be ready for a full discussion in the fall.
