WSBE Academic Counselors Receive Awards

Tamara Rury, Lisa Pappajohn and Ashley Lapp, WSBE academic counselors, recently attended the 27th annual Northeast Region One Conference of the National Academic Advising Association held in Burlington, Vermont.
The trio presented “Back to Basics: Personalizing Advising at a Large New England University,” based on the advising curriculum utilized in WSBE undergraduate programs.
Lapp received a Presenter Scholarship, awarded to only five presenters to the conference. Rury received a Region One Academic Advising Excellence Award, which annually recognizes individuals in each of the region’s states and provinces who have demonstrated qualities associated with excellence in the academic advising of students. She was nominated for the award by Gail Stepina, assistant director of WSBE undergraduate programs and advising, Pappajohn and Lapp.
The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising), promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students.
