Northeast Passage to Host Boston Sled Hockey Tournament March 11 – 13

The Northeast Passage Wildcats, UNH’s sled hockey team, will be hosting a tournament March 11-13, 2011, in Dedham, Mass. Northeast Passage is a program UNH and offers adaptive sports and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.

  • Location: Noble and Greenough School, Dedham, Mass.

  • Sled hockey teams from New Hampshire, western Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York will be competing.

  • Free and open to the public

  • Game schedule:
    • Friday, 3/11: 8p.m. – 9:30 p.m., Northeast Passage (NEP) vs. N.Y.
    • Saturday, 3/12:
      • 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., N.Y. vs. Western Mass.
      • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., NEP vs. Conn. (Opening Ceremonies)
      • 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., NEP vs. Western Mass.
      • 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m., N.Y. vs. Conn.
      • 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., C.T. vs. Western Mass.
      • 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., Championship game
    • Sunday, 3/13: 10 a.m. – noon, NEP Junior Wildcats vs. Springfield Junior Sliders

The Wildcats are led by defenseman Taylor Chace, Hampton Falls, N.H., who was recently named the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Paralympic SportsMan of the Year. Chace is a member of the U.S. Sled Hockey team that brought home a gold medal from the Paralympic Games in Vancouver in 2010.

The team includes several current and past national and junior team members, as well as players from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

The Wildcats compete in the Northeast Sled Hockey League and play in tournaments across the country. The team is nationally ranked, placing first or second in U.S.A Hockey’s Disabled Festival for the past three years. Team members give back to the local community through motivational speaking engagements and by participating in sled hockey clinics for mobility-impaired children and recently injured veterans.
