Letter to the Editor: Employee Shares News of Family's Accident

June 8, 2011

To the Editor,

I am a UNH employee and have been the manager of the Coastal Marine Lab/the newly named Judd Gregg Marine Facility Complex for more than 18 years. My wife Wendy, also a UNH employee for over 24 years, and my 12-year-old daughter, who started at the Child Study and Development Center when she was 8 months old, were on their way to church on Sunday, May 15, when a young man turned his vehicle into them. Both vehicles were totaled, he was pronounced dead at the scene, and my wife was left barely alive while our daughter not only broke several bones but watched the entire scene unfold before her very eyes. My wife may never walk again and many questions remain about her recovery; all we know at this point is it will be a long and difficult process. I would like to thank the entire UNH community for their thoughts, prayers, well wishes, and gift cards. They are greatly appreciated and much needed as my family struggles through this difficult time. A website has been set up so people can send messages, keep abreast of their progress, and see how they can help in this life changing event. https://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/641791/login/

Thank you again,

Noel C. Carlson
