June 8, 2011
UNH and Durham celebrated WalkNH Week 2011 on Wednesday, June 1, by inviting the community to join in a group walk that offered a choice of three different walking route lengths on the UNH Durham campus. More than 150 community members braved the weather to participate, including 30 children from the UNH Child Study Development Center. This year the walking routes included Woodman Farm and the equine trails.
Governor John Lynch proclaimed June 1-7 WalkNH Week as a way to promote walking and help keep New Hampshire residents on a healthy path. The goal of WalkNH Week is to inspire participants to continue walking as part of a healthy lifestyle long after the June events end. WalkNH Week is an event designed to encourage people of all ages to get out, get moving, and participate in a one-to-three mile community walk.
