Passings: Civil Engineering Professor Pedro de Alba

Pedro A. de Alba, 71, professor of civil engineering, died Feb. 20. He came to UNH in 1977 to take a position as assistant professor of civil engineering. At the time of his death, he was professor of civil engineering and active in research projects in the field of geotechnical engineering.
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 2, 1939, he was the son of Pedro de Alba and Otilia Lopez de Alba. He grew up in various countries where his father held diplomatic positions. He graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and received his master’s of science and Ph.D in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Alice Radin, and his beloved daughter, Cassandra de Alba.
There will be a memorial service in the spring.
