2011 Alumni Excellence Through Diversity Lecture Features Alumnus John Laymon

The inaugural Alumni Excellence Through Diversity Lecture takes place Friday, May 6, at 12:45 p.m. in the MUB. Distinguished alumnus John Laymon ’73 will speak about his experience as an engineering major and athlete at UNH, his rise to business ownership, and his continued efforts to promote diversity in his field.
President and sole owner of JRL Enterprises, Inc., one of the largest minority businesses in Pittsburgh, Laymon was the first African American to graduate from UNH with a degree in mechanical engineering. He has been recognized by Junior Achievement as Entrepreneur of the Year, by 100 Black Men of Western Pennsylvania as Minority Business Person of the Year, and by UNH College of Engineering and Physical Science and CEPS with the Distinguished Service Award, among others.
A reception will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Huddleston Hall Ballroom where the 2011 Diversity Hall of Fame Awards will be presented.
Now in its fifth year, the Diversity Hall of Fame Award Program recognizes alumni for their leadership and outstanding achievements as students on campus and for their continued work to advancing diversity in their work and community service.
