Mindful Eating Choices Topic of Workshops

Rochelle L’Italien, UNH dietitian, and Suzanne Sonneborn, UNH dietitian and nutrition educator, will offer three opportunities for people to discuss eating during the holidays and guide them in the ways they can make healthy choices.

“Tis the Season...Make Mindless Eating Work for You” is aimed at helping people who are trying to eat healthy navigate their way through a season that is typically filled with tough choices, and often results in mindless eating.

“We chose the title so people would be mindful of what their eating and why,” Says Sonneborn. “These are meant to be brainstorming sessions to provide helpful information. It’s absolutely not about dieting—we don’t talk about diets or calories or fat grams. It’s about making healthy choices.”

Those choices don’t just come with food selections, Sonneborn says; it’s about reviewing your life balance, how much sleep you get, how much stress you’re under, what kinds of snacks you eat at work.
“It’s looking at the whole picture,” Sonneborn says.

Adds L’Italien, “Mindless eating often has a negative connotation but this is not always the case, nor need it be. We will explore cues and suggestions around the topic of eating and how to re-engineer them to work in favor of your health goals.”

The sessions will take place Thursday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in MUB 330/332; Tuesday Nov. 23, noon to 1 p.m., MUB, 336 and Wednesday, Dec. 8, noon to 1 p.m., Holloway Commons Piscataqua Room.
