Walk the (Healthy) Talk June 2

By Jody Record, Campus Journal Editor
May 26, 2010

Walk NH Week will be celebrated at UNH Wednesday, June 2, with a walk around campus and Durham. Last year, more than 230 people turned out for the 3-mile walk aimed at promoting good health.

Gov. John Lynch has proclaimed June 1-7, 2010 Walk NH Week. The initiative encourages walking as a means of keeping New Hampshire residents on a healthy path; participants are encouraged to continue walking long after Walk NH ends.

The yearly event aligns with Healthy UNH, an initiative that aims to make UNH the healthiest campus community in the country by 2020. One focus of Healthy UNH is to encourage people to get active.

The UNH walk, organized by Healthy UNH and Campus Recreation, will begin at noon. Participants should gather on Carpenter Plaza in front of the Whittemore Center Arena. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Sweet Oval in the Field House. Be sure to let your friends, family and co-workers know about this special event.

To register for the walk, visit http://www.unh.edu/hr/walkNH2010.html. Registration will also be available on the day of the event but participants should arrive early to ensure enough time to register.
