Signals: Q & A, IT Help Desk

By IT Help Desk Staff
May 12, 2010

Each month Signals, the information technology newsletter for faculty and staff, answers questions submitted to the help desk. Here are the questions, and answers, from this month’s issue.

Question #1

Q: When I log into Blackboard using Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8), I can’t see images or content, and sometimes I receive a “Navigation Failed” message. I keep answering “Yes” whenever a Security Warning prompt appears. Is there anything I can do so I can see this information?

A: Yes, there are two possible solutions. The first solution is to answer “No” to the security prompt. The question asks, “Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?” You want to view all content, not just secure content.

The second solution will eliminate all Security Warning prompts, but will also apply to all secure web pages, so proceed with caution.

To eliminate Security Warnings in IE 8:

Open IE 8.

Go to Internet Options and choose the security tab.

Click on custom level.

Scroll down to the miscellaneous section, and under “display mixed content,” choose “enable.”

Click OK, and then “apply” once the security tab closes.

Restart IE 8.

You should now be able to view all content and images in Blackboard.

Question #3

Q. How do I give another user permission to view my UNH Webmail calendar?

A. To allow another Blackboard user to view your calendar, follow these steps:

Log into Blackboard.

Select UNH E-mail.

Click on the organizing link. You will see a calendar icon below this icon.

Click on calendar and look to the far right of your screen for a box that is titled calendars.

Within this box, click on “manage calendars.”

In the very last column to the right of your screen, click on the keys icon.

Under “individual users,” type in individual’s username for whom you would like to give access to your calendar.

Check off the permission boxes you would like to give to user (show, read, edit, delete, and delegate).
