Obituary: Betty Joyce Mills, Former Assistant Professor and Women's Coach

Betty Joyce Mills, a former assistant professor of physical education at UNH, died Feb. 26, 2010. She was 81.
Mills, of Durham, taught at the university for more than 30 years beginning in the late 1950s. She also taught at Boston University and the University of California Santa Barbara. She taught golf, archery, swimming, tennis, skiing, tumbling, recreational games, and a favorite of many freshman girls, speedball.
Mills was instrumental in developing a sports literature class at UNH and was invited to many colleges in the area for speaking engagements regarding this innovative class. In the early 1970s she coached the women's basketball and tennis teams.
A memorial service will be held in the spring when the ice is out of Little Bay.
