Results of First Campus-Wide Fitness Competition

Fall into Fitness, Healthy UNH’s first campus-wide fitness competition, drew 120 teams with 470 participants who exercised for more than 15,000 minutes from Oct.15 to Nov. 15, the span of the contest.

"We are thrilled about the participation for this event. By offering a program that was time-flexible, more people were able to participate. We have received a lot of feedback about this being a great motivator and some teams will be continuing on their own,” says Kimberly Persson, project director for the NH Institute for Health Policy and Practice at UNH.

Winners were declared in three categories – highest team average of minutes spent exercising, average of most varied activities by team, and most improved during the course of the competition. Winners include:

Highest team average of minutes spent exercising:

1st Rochelle Represents: 3,457 minutes (Rochelle L’Italien)

2nd The Dynamite Five: 3,031 minutes (Karen Gilbert, Sharon Flanagan, Anne Lawing, Sharon Andrews, Janice Pearson)

3rd Highly Reactive: 2,769 minutes (Rebecca Thompson, Kristin Blackwell, Peg Torch, Cindi Rohwer, Pat Wilkinson)

Average of most varied activities by team:

1st Team Spongebob, 10 activities (Briana Sullivan, Jo Laird, Robert Foulkes)

2nd  Run Like A Mother, 9 activities (Lisa Corman)

3rd  Namaste, 7 activities (Nancy Taylor)

Most improved:

Only one team was able to increase (or at least remain the same) the amount of minutes exercised each week.

1st The Better Than Nothing Track Club (Shawn Green, Rob Hoppler, James Boulanger, Casey Carroll)

Winners will be contacted directly to arrange for pickup of prizes, which were donated from local companies and range from free yoga classes to fitness equipment to T-tshirts.
