University Advancement Spearheads Back to School Drive

For some parents, a new school year doesn’t bring excitement, it creates concern as they wonder how they will afford the sundry school supplies their children will need. Prompted by an article in the Portsmouth Herald, University Advancement has launched a school supplies drive that will aid area elementary school students from preschool to college.
Donations can be dropped off at the True Lounge at the Elliot Alumni Center before Aug. 25.
Supplies in need include:
- Markers
- Paper
- Notebooks
- Backpacks
- Rulers
- Staplers and staples*
- Calculators*
- Tape*
- Three-ring binders* (and reinforcement stickers)
- Pencil sharpeners
- Gift certificates for shoes, socks and clothes
Specific needs for Mast Way Elementary School:
- 3-4 lunch boxes
- 3-4 backpacks
- 6 zippered pencil cases with pens, pencils and sharpeners
- 6 Payless Shoe Source gift certificates
- 5 dry erase marker sets
- Cash donations
