On Wednesday, June 3, UNH and the Town of Durham will celebrate Walk New Hampshire Week 2009 with a 3-mile walk around campus and Durham. Dick Cannon, vice president for finance and administration, will lead the walk.
Governor John Lynch has proclaimed June 1 – 7 Walk New Hampshire Week as a way to promote walking and help keep New Hampshire residents on a healthy path. First lady Dr. Susan Lynch is the program’s spokesperson.
In addition to the weeklong event, people are encouraged to participate in the ongoing Walk New Hampshire program that was created by the Foundation for Healthy Communities. The goal is to walk 190 miles (the length of New Hampshire) or 70 (the width) during a set period of time. UNH’s walk counts toward mileage accumulation.
Individuals or teams (2 – 6 adults and/or children) can sign up. A log to keep track of miles can be found at http://www.walknh.org/fhc/initiatives/walknh/2006brochureforweb.pdf.
The UNH/Durham walk will begin at noon. Walkers should meet at the main entrance of the Whittemore Center at 11:45 for check-in. All members of the campus and Durham communities are encouraged to participate. Pre-registration for this event is required.
