New ID Numbers for Faculty and Staff Coming

Faculty and staff whose social security numbers will no longer be used as their UNH identifier can expect to receive new ID cards via campus mail or in person by Aug. 5.
In May, in a move aimed at helping protect against identify theft, students were assigned randomly selected numbers to replace their social security numbers. Now, faculty and staff who use any UNH services that require an ID card ( such as the Kronos time clock system, secure areas or meal plans) will need a new nine-digit ID number.
Cards for faculty and staff with door access will be delivered to a designated person and then distributed. Those without door access will receive the new ID through campus mail. All other faculty and staff will need to go to the ID office in Holloway Commons before Aug. 27 or after Sept. 4.
Work on the project began in February 2008, followed by the decision to do the task in-house and then, to have it in place by the fall of 2009. The change involves every returning student as well as incoming students, and all faculty and staff who use an ID card to access UNH services.
Some data, such as federal forms, will still require a social security number.
