This year’s University Day combines the traditional new-year kick off Academic Convocation with the first virtual inauguration of a UNH president.
Mark Huddleston will be officially installed as the 19th president in a ceremony that will be broadcast on the Web. This ‘green’ inauguration provides a sustainable way to participate in one of academia’s oldest customs while helping to reduce the carbon footprint.
The Academic Convocation takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., in the Granite State Room of the MUB where Provost and Executive Vice President Bruce Mallory and the 2008 -2009 Discovery Authors from across the university will discuss the issue of poverty and opportunity in today’s world.
At 12:30 p.m., also in the Granite State Room, Huddleston will deliver his inaugural address after being installed by University System Board of Trustees Chairman Edward Dupont.
The day caps off with the University Picnic, where there’s free food and entertainment, information on all kinds of student groups and organizations and other campus events. Look for kids’ activities and demonstrations as well. The picnic takes place from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the lawn outside T Hall.
