The 2008 Wildcat Santa toy drive is underway and runs through Dec. 12. Last year, the generosity of UNH faculty and staff brought toys--and joy--to more than 30 area families in need.
Donations of games, books, puzzles, toys, CDs and movies for children up to 16 years old are being sought.
“Wildcat Santa is a long-standing charitable tradition at UNH, made possible by the hard work of student and staff volunteers and very generous donations from the local community,” says Cathy Annese, Wildcat Santa chairperson.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the President’s Holiday Skating Party (Thursday, Dec. 4, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) with proceeds going toward gift cards for older children who aren’t included in the Wildcat Santa donation requests. Gift cards to food stores for family holiday dinners also are purchased with the raffle money.
Raffle prizes include restaurant gift cards, local inn visits, craft-making sessions, flowers and plants, artwork, Recreation Center memberships, gift baskets, jewelry and more.
Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.
The organizers of Wildcat Santa typically hold a fundraiser every other year to help fill their coffers, depending on the number of families they have assisted the previous year.
Wildcat Santa also offers aid to families who have other needs. For example, one year they bought a refrigerator for a local food pantry and another time helped the family of a newborn.
Wildcat Santa has been committed to providing assistance to UNH and local community families during the holiday season since 1990. Faculty and staff donations will ensure they can do the same this holiday season.
