A UNH doctoral candidate in sociology has been chosen by the Carsey Institute
as their 2008 graduate research fellow. Anne M. Shattuck of Amherst will work
closely with Carsey Institute faculty and research staff who are experts in
youth policy and programs. She will focus her work on addressing the challenges
that face rural youth in the region.
Established in 2007, “the Nordblom” was established through the
generosity of Peter C. Nordblom and Kristin Van Curan Nordblom to provide a
summer fellowship to an outstanding graduate student working with the Carsey
Institute and the University of New Hampshire. Students are selected through
a competitive process based on academic merit, the work they propose to do,
and how the proposal relates to their career goals.
“We are very fortunate to have Anne join the Carsey Institute this summer.
She is simply one of the brightest, most critically minded students I have
ever come in contact with at the university, said Karen Van Gundy, associate
professor of sociology. “Her writing and research skills are extraordinary
and I look forward to working on Carsey projects with her.”
