25th Annual International Fiesta At Smith Hall May 9
May 7, 2008

The 25th International Fiesta, a spring tradition celebrating UNH’s
international students and scholars, will take place Friday, May 9, from 11
a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the lawn at Smith Hall.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the residence hall, named for
Hamilton Smith Jr. and his wife, Alice, who, after her husband’s death,
donated $10,000 towards a women’s dorm. Smith Hall opened in 1908.
To celebrate Smith's history, a special day of centennial activities has been
planned. An open house will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. On display will be
a 1918 log book, a scrapbook from the '30's, photos from the Granite Yearbook
and many of Smith's architectural drawings and renovation documents. Commemorative
T-shirts and prints of Smith Hall will be available for sale throughout the
day.
The fiesta will feature, among other musical performers, Akwaaba, an African
drumming group; El Arte Flamenco; and Pan Loco, a steel drum band. There will
also be entertainers, dancers, food and merchandise. Sumo suits, henna, bocci,
piñatas, origami and mask decorating.
