Zeke's Cafe Open at Dimond Library

The Dimond Library is becoming a place that its users won’t want to leave.

First, life was made easier for patrons by creating the Academic Commons, an area that brings computer support, collaborative work spaces and technology-enhanced conference rooms together.

Now, visitors can take a break from their work to get something to eat—right there in the library.

Zeke’s Café—for Ezekiel Webster Dimond—opened last week one flight up from the main entrance. Located in room 408, the newest eatery on campus serves up hot and cold beverages, wraps, baked goods and snacks.

The new café is designed to bring resources together in one location for a more efficient support of student technology and research needs. The food is of the grab-and-go variety that Dining Services has strived to offer in convenient locations around campus; a similar fare is served at Albert’s Café in Kingsbury Hall and will be offered at the Dairy Bar when it reopens later this semester.

“This is part of Dining Services’ initiative to provide more food service options to students,” says Rich LeHoullier, a dining area manager. “It’s a trend around the country; libraries all across the United States are bringing in cafés.”

Business at Zeke’s has been brisk since its Jan. 22 opening, LeHoullier says, adding he expects sales to climb even higher as more and more students learn the eatery is there.

Library officials welcome the additional benefit for its users.

“We’re very excited about this partnership with Dining Services that provides another level of service to our library patrons,” says Tracey Lauder, library administration office manager. “Between the Dimond Academic Commons and Zeke’s Café, Dimond Library truly is ‘one-stop shopping.’ ”

Zeke’s menu includes assorted wraps and sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, yogurt parfaits, sushi, hummus and cereal as well as various coffees, teas and cold drinks.

The café is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to midnight; Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.;Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-midnight.
