Register For Emergency Alerts
January 23, 2008
To UNH Students, Faculty, Staff, Families and Friends of the University,
Beginning today, UNH invites you to register for a free service that automatically
sends to your email account or cell phone a brief text message alerting you
to an emergency situation on the Durham campus. You can register at https://alert.unh.edu.
UNH has contracted with Roam Secure, a Virginia-based company that has the
capability to send more than 18,000 messages per minute to anyone who enrolls
in the alert service.
When an emergency occurs, UNH police will send an alert text message to
all who are subscribed, and will follow up on the UNH Web site as the incident
is resolved. After you receive the initial alert on your phone or computer,
you should check the UNH Web site for updates on the situation.
We are encouraging everyone to subscribe and will continue to outreach to
all of you over the course of the spring semester. After you register, you
will be able to manage your own contact information in the event you change
an email address or cell phone number. You also may choose to opt out at
any time. For example, if you are a student and no longer wish to receive
the alerts after you graduate in May, you will be able to unsubscribe easily.
The Roam Secure service is not intended to replace other means of communications
during an emergency. We will be as redundant as we can be, so on-campus email
addresses will still receive a directed communication, and information will
always be available on the UNH Web site. We also will continue to record
information on the UNH information line, 2-0000.
It only takes a few minutes to register at https://alert.unh.edu.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Paul Dean, UNH Emergency Operations Coordinator
Deputy Chief, UNH Police Department
