Dean Marilyn Hoskin will step down next spring, ending her 13 years
as head of the College of Liberal Arts.
A professor of political science, Hoskin came to UNH in 1995 from the
University of New York, College at Buffalo, where she was dean of Natural
and Social Sciences.
In a letter to the university community, Provost and executive vice
president Bruce Mallory notes that, in her time at UNH, Hoskin has, among
other accomplishments, led the college through significant transformations,
including the transformation of major research centers and institutes,
the expansion of undergraduate and graduate programs, extensive renovations
of Murkland and Huddleston Halls, and the transition to a decentralized
budget system.
“Dean Hoskin has been the deans’ dean for many years. She
has been a close advisor to me and a leader among her colleagues on the
Deans Council,” Mallory says. “Her wise counsel, understanding
of the university’s mission, and ability to solve complex problems
has earned her the deep respect of fellow deans, university administrators,
department chairs, and faculty. These will be very big shoes to fill.”
Hoskin is the author of “New Immigrants and Democratic Society:
Minority Integration in Western Democracies,” and co-author with Roberta
S. Sigel of “Education for Democratic Citizenship: A Challenge
for Multi-ethnic Societies and The Political Involvement of Adolescents.”
An international search for Hoskin’s replacement will be launched
once a search committee is formed.
