United Way Campaign Comes To A Close
November 28, 2007
United Way of the Greater Seacoast has a lot to be proud of this year, following
the conclusion of the 2007 fundraising campaign at UNH.. With the help of
co-chairs Christina VanHorn and Marianne Fortescue as well as Kate Hanson’s
Communication 698 class, UNH was able to raise $50,500 for the United Way
- the most successful year in recent memory.
The co-chairs and the class would like to thank everyone who participated
in the campaign. Senior Bryan Ouellette said, “It wasn’t just
our class and the directors who helped, but all the department heads, the
faculty/staff who donated, the directors of the local media outlets, and
anyone who donated their time to help us reach our goal.”
Although the goal this year wasn’t released, UWGS along with the class
set a $50,000 goal, a goal in which President Mark Huddleston thought was “very
achievable.” By the second week the campaign had raised close to $44,000,
far exceeding previous campaigns. The UWGS, the directors, and the class
were happy with the resulting donations from faculty and staff.
Not only will the results of the campaign significantly benefit thousands
of people in the Seacoast area, but the 23 students in Hanson’s 698
class can take this experience with them in their futures. According to communication
department head Larry Prelli, “This was a valuable learning experience
where the students were able to put into practice what they learn.”
Bob Hope once said “If you haven’t got charity in your heart,
then you have the worst heart trouble.” Apparently, the hearts of UNH
faculty and staff are beating stronger than ever.
