The Thompson School's Flower Powered Christmas Tree Takes Third Place

November 28, 2007

Horticultural technology students from the Thompson School won third place in the popular vote in the Learning Center category during the 17th Annual Festival of Trees held Nov. 16-18 in Portsmouth.

The Horticulture Club students designed and decorated their tree using ornaments from nature, including a moss tree skirt. Fresh flowers completed the design.

The festival is sponsored by the Portsmouth Garden Club and the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development, Division of Forests and Lands, Urban Forestry Center.

Proceeds from the annual event support a scholarship program founded by the garden club. Students attending a New Hampshire college or university are given preference when recipients are named. The money also funds conservation education and historic gardens on the Seacoast.
