Thompson School Commencement is Saturday, May 12

The Thompson School of Applied Science will hold its annual commencement
ceremony Saturday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lundholm Gymnasium.
The degree of Associate in Applied Science will be conferred on approximately
140 graduates of the Thompson School. Graduates will have completed a two-year
course of study in applied animal science, applied business management,
civil technology, community leadership, food services management, forest
technology, or horticultural technology.
Jameson S. French, president and CEO of Northland Forest Products, Inc.,
director and treasurer of New Hampshire Charitable Fund, and chair of the
Market Square Steeple Fund Advisory Committee will address graduates with
a speech entitled “Dealing with a Flat and Changing World.”
French has worked with Northland Forest Products, a hardwood lumber processor,
exporter and distributor headquartered in Kingston, since 1978. Prior to
joining Northland, he worked for an English timber agency. His family has
been in the hardwood industry for more than 120 years.
A resident of Portsmouth, French is active in a range of community activities:
he is a trustee of Berwick Academy, chair of the City of Portsmouth Trust
Funds, vice chair of The Hardwood Federation in Washington, D.C., and a
member of the President’s Council of the National Wildlife Foundation.
He was honored by the Rainforest Alliance in 2004 with the Sustainable
Standard Setter Award and was the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce’s
Citizen of the Year in 2001.
Regina A. Smick-Attisano, director Thompson School, assisted by William
R. Trumble, dean College of Life Sciences and Agriculture, will announce
student recipients of several awards, including the Scholastic Achievement
Award, Student Achievement Award, Leadership and Scholarship Award, the
Stacey Cole Endowed Scholarship Award, and the Director’s Non-traditional
Student Award.
Following the presentation of candidates by Smick-Attisano, Interim President
J. Bonnie Newman will confer the degrees.
