Graduate Painters Present New Work At The Art Gallery
May 2, 2007
An exhibition showcasing the artistic talents of two graduate
students receiving a Masters of Fine Arts degree in painting
from UNH’s department of art and art history will
be on view at The Art Gallery beginning Tuesday, May 8.
The “2007 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition II” showcases
the works of artists Michelle Arnold of Wheaton, Ill., and
Jamie Bowman of Dannemora, N.Y. A preview reception with
the artists will take place on Monday, May 7, from 5 – 7
Arnold’s oil paintings capture the scale and grandeur
of the art and architecture she encountered while living
and working in Italy. Her shadowy depictions evoke a sense
of quiet solitude that emerges from once-crowded spaces.

Bowman’s drawings and paintings reflect the fleeting
quality of memories. Her landscapes, portraits, and still-life
images are based on observation, but, like memories, they
hover between clarity and fading obscurity.
Arnold and Bowman will present a gallery talk on Wednesday,
May 9, at noon in The Art Gallery, offered as part of the
weekly ArtBreak series. The “2007 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition
II” will be on view through May 19 and is funded in
part by the Department of Art and Art History.

B.F.A. Exhibition,” featuring the work of five candidates
for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, including: Jason Bombaci
of Concord, N.H. (painting); Maggie Cedarstrom of Meredith,
N.H. (painting); Christopher Hobbs of Hampstead, N.H. (drawing
and painting); Ryan Murphy of Cambridge, Mass. (painting);
and Nathaniel Raymond of Exeter, N.H. (printmaking).
Both graduate and undergraduate exhibitions are funded
in part by the Friends of The Art Gallery.
