As the snow recedes and days grow warmer, gardeners can
jump-start the planting season at UNH’s annual Greenhouse
Open House, March 30 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two-day
event is free and open to the public
At this annual rite of spring, UNH staff and students present
informative displays of interest to home gardeners, growers
and landscapers. Visitors will learn about biofuel crops,
carnivorous plants, Eastern equine encephalitis, sweet potato
varieties for New Hampshire, and the Rockingham Botanical
Garden.
Experts are on hand to answer gardening questions, and the
UNH Plant Diagnostic Lab will figure out what ails visitors’ sickly
plants. Additional displays include information on the New
Hampshire Master Gardener program, snack seed pumpkins, and
food safety for home gardeners.

In addition, visitors can walk through the Lost River and
Medieval castle garden displays and take tours of the UNH
greenhouses, and children can participate in a scavenger
hunt and coloring contest. Plants and Cooperative Extension
publications will be available for sale.
The Greenhouse Open House once again coincides with the
2007 Seacoast Flower, Home & Garden Show at the Whittemore
Center March 30 and April 1. Shuttle service will be available
between the greenhouses and the Whittemore Center on Friday
and Saturday.
The UNH Greenhouse Open House is sponsored by the Thompson
School of Applied Science, department of plant biology, Cooperative
Extension, and College of Life Sciences and Agriculture For
