Important Information Regarding Students And Health Insurance
June 20, 2007
Dear faculty or staff member:
This is to inform you of important information regarding students and
health insurance. Beginning this fall for the 2007-08 academic year (pending
anticipated approval by the USNH Board of Trustees), UNH will introduce
a health insurance requirement as a condition of enrollment for all full-time
degree students.
Students will have the option of waiving the requirement by presenting
proof of adequate insurance through another plan; or, alternatively they
can acquire affordable health insurance under a Student Health Benefits
Plan (SHBP) sponsored by the university and administered by Health Plans,
Inc., a subsidiary of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
The decision to implement this requirement follows a year-long process
of surveying students’ health care needs, considering program objectives
in consultation with students, parents, faculty, and professional staff,
and conducting a comprehensive request-for-proposals process.
The insurance requirement has been instituted to support students in
their academic pursuits. Specifically, having health insurance is a way
to reduce the financial risk associated with medical and/or psychological
care while attending school.
Additional details about the requirement and the SHBP can be found at

Please email Health Services at healthservices@unh.edu or call 2-2853
if you have any questions.
