Computer Store Makes Its Move, Relocates to the MUB

The UNH Computer Store has moved from its cramped quarters in Hewitt Hall
Annex to highly visible, more readily accessible digs in the MUB that just
happen to adjoin the customer service center.
How handy is that?
The store and the Computer Service Center, already located in the MUB,
set up next to each other at the end of May and opened in time for freshmen
orientation.
“We’ve probably had about a 25 percent increase in people
through the store than we did during last year’s orientation,” says
Bonnie Thompson, manager of the Computer Store. “We are far more
visible here. And we’ll be able to have more contact with the students.”
The Computer Store has taken over space previously occupied by the Copy
Center. At approximately 1,500 square feet, it’s double the square
footage of the old store, which means there’s more merchandise on
the shelves. And that’s a help at this time of year.
“Most of the people coming in now are parents and they’re
more interested in products than service, although most do ask about service,” says
Nancye Jenkins, CIS senior information technology manager.
She, too, points to the plus of the new location’s visibility by
noting that, in the past, some students who hadn’t attended orientation
didn’t even know there was a store on campus. Moreover, the MUB site
will now make it easier for faculty and staff members to stop in and check
out the goods.
“We get mostly telephone orders from departments. Now, they can
actually come in and see the latest products,” Thompson says.
Jenkins adds, “That’s one thing more space has done—it’s
allowed us to bring in more products.”
Those products include Apple and Dell computers, iPods and printers as
well as software and accessories. Because they only sell to the UNH community,
the Computer Store can pass along academic discounts, making their prices
competitive.
And, the service center is an official warranty site for Apple, Dell and
HP printers so anything bought at the store also can be serviced here on
campus.
Located across from the GSS mailboxes, the Computer Store is open for
business from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the summer. Once the academic year begins,
that pushes to 5 p.m. And they are considering being open Saturdays—something
they’ve never done before.
Additionally, if repairs are going to require a lengthy turn-around time
and, providing they have them available, the service center will offer
loaners to people who bought their computers at the store.
