UNH’s Therapeutic Riding Program is seeking volunteers
for its summer session, which runs June 28 through August 17.
Classes are Thursday afternoons from 1 to 4 and Friday mornings
from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Time commitments are flexible and can
be as little as 45 minutes, one day per week.
The riding program provides recreational and therapeutic activities
to children and adults with all varieties of physical, cognitive
and emotional disabilities. Volunteers have direct contact
with students, helping to ensure a safe and fun lesson environment,
and helping students achieve their therapeutic and educational
goals. No prior experience with horses is necessary. Anyone
age 12 or up is welcome to participate.
Since its inception in 1989, the riding program has trained
more than 500 volunteers.
A training and orientation session for new volunteers is Tuesday,
June 26 at 1 p.m. in the Light Horse Classroom at the horse
barns. For further information, please contact Cindy Burke
at the Therapeutic Riding Program at 2-0131 or go to www.trp.unh.edu.
