Scholarships For Women's Leadership and Management Program
July 25, 2007
Women faculty and PAT staff members can apply for scholarships to attend
the 2007-2008 HERS Management Institute for Women in Higher Education at
Wellesley College.
HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) is an independent organization
established at Brown University in 1972. It has been housed at Wellesley
College in the Center for Research on Women since 1976, developing and
directing programs to improve the status and opportunities of academic
professional women.
The program has three areas of instruction—fiscal management,
managing in organizations and professional development—that are
taught during five weekends.
Most attendees work as administrators, coordinators, directors, assistants
to the president, comptrollers, registrars, chairs, assistants and associate
deans. The policy of accepting faculty members who are department chairs
or who have had extensive committee work and are moving into administration
distinguishes this program from most others.
For program information visit http://www.wellesley.edu/WCW/Hers/Frm_MIFWIHE.htm.
(Note: the program is for all of the dates listed during the year). Scholarship
support includes the cost of tuition/fees, hotel/meals, and transportation.
To apply, submit a letter of interest stating how you would gain from
the experience, the name and phone number of a campus colleague to serve
as a reference in support of your application, and a current CV or resume.
Deadline is July 30. Send by campus mail or email to Nancy Hamer, ABSC,
14e Stoke Hall/Campus, 2-1934 or nancy.hamer@unh.edu.
If you have alternative funding to pay for the program, you may also
apply directly to Susan Knowles, HERS Institute, Wellesley College, Wellesley,
MA 02181.
The HERS Scholarship Recommendation Committee, comprised of UNH HERS
alumna, will make their recommendations to the Provost. The HERS-Wellesley
Institute will make the final selection based on balancing their 2007-2008
incoming class between faculty and professional staff, and the various
backgrounds of the applicant pool. Awarded recipients will be notified
by the Provost's Office of the final outcome by August 3.
Questions? Contact Nancy Hamer at the above phone or email.
