Letter From President: MLK
January 17, 2007
Dear Members of the UNH Community,
I invite all members of the University of New Hampshire community to join me in honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his work to advance social justice, community service, and respect for all people. Please join us for the 2007 celebration events on January 17, 28, 31 and February 1.
The theme of the University’s 2007 celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King is From Poverty to Empowerment: A Call to Action. As part of the celebration, the Office of the Provost/Diversity Initiatives, with campus and community members, is sponsoring commemorative events that call us to take note of the many economic challenges that face the citizens of New Hampshire while encouraging us to act. As Interim President, I ask each of you to reflect upon the leadership and principles that Dr. King espoused and also to be leaders in breaking down the barriers that face so many in our culture.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in our Annual Martin Luther King Celebration. Please know that your involvement is valuable to this campus community and will help promote Dr. King’s dream of building a stronger society where all people can live, work, and achieve. Learn more about the activities taking place January 17th through February 1st at www.unh.edu/diversity/mlk_celebration.html.
Come be inspired to take action.
J. Bonnie Newman
