UNH Scientists Uncover Lost Maya Ruins – From Space
Remains of the ancient Maya culture, mysteriously destroyed at the height of its reign in the ninth
century, have been hidden in the rainforests of Central America for more than 1,000 years. Now,
NASA and University of New Hampshire scientists are using space- and aircraft-based "remote-sensing"
technology to uncover those ruins, using the chemical signature of the civilization's ancient building
materials.

Receives Positive Ratings for Planned $145 Million Construction and
Renovation of Student Housing Facilities
The independent rating agencies of Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s affirmed
their A+ and A1 ratings of the University System of New Hampshire in
anticipation of the March issuance of $145 million in bonds through the
New Hampshire Health and Educational Facilities Authority. The proceeds
from the sale of the 2006 bonds will be used for construction and renovation
of student housing facilities at UNH, Plymouth State University, and Keene
State College.

New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch joined Ross Gittell, James R. Carter Professor and professor of
management, recently to discuss the opportunities and challenges of globalization in the state
and for UNH students. Drawing a diverse audience of about 150 students, faculty, USNH trustees
and community members, “Globalization and What it Means for the New Hampshire Economy” was part
of a year-long program about globalization, "University Dialogue: Where in the World is UNH?"

Phycologist Studies Seaweeds To Measure Ecosystem Changes
With funding from NH Sea Grant, Arthur Mathieson and several colleagues have collected
thousands of seaweed samples from 200 sites around Casco Bay. Comparing their findings
to Victorian samples, they’ve discovered that the bay’s seaweed community is quite similar
to that of the late 1800s, overall.

Join UHS in Collecting School Supplies for Hurricane Victims and Celebrating Mardi Gras
UNH Dining Services has been working with the New Orleans Board of
Education to collect donations to help the St. Bernard Unified School,
a PK-12 school opened after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the St. Bernard
Parish.
