Brief Biography of Prof. Keith Polk

Prof. Keith Polk, a native of California, received his B.A. from San Diego State University, his M.A. from the University of Wisconsin, and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He came to UNH in 1964, was promoted to Professor of Music in 1984, and retired in 2000. Prof. Polk is a well known scholar of Renaissance music. His many publications in this area include German Instrumental Music of the Late Middle Ages from the Cambridge University Press. He is also an accomplished player of the French horn. He was a member of the UNH Faculty Wind Quintet and has performed with many orchestras and chamber groups including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Smithsonian Chamber Players (Washington, D.C.), and the New Hampshire and Vermont Symphonies. During his career at UNH, Prof. Polk's teaching responsibilities were extensive, ranging from graduate seminars in musicology through general education and humanities courses to applied music teaching on the horn. He also served several terms as chair of the department and was, during the 1991-92 academic year, the coordinator of UNH's London Program.
